Welcome to the St. James’s Place Midlands Children of Courage Awards 2015
Our Comperes - Ricky and Leah Boleto from CBBC's Newsround
Married couple Ricky and Leah Boleto are well known as the presenters of the Newsround programme for the BBC.
They met on the CBBC programme four years ago and were married in 2014 after a birthday trip to New York in 2013 when Ricky proposed to Leah, getting down on one knee after dinner in a restaurant in the middle of Central Park!
Ricky joined Newsround in 2008 and is also a reporter on BBC One's consumer affairs show Watchdog, investigating anything from exploding washing machines to faulty BMWs.
Leah, who started out as a trainee broadcast journalist at 1Xtra, came to Newsround in 2009. Among many assignments, she has covered the World Cup in Brazil and the aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.
Opening the entertainment for the evening are the Disney quartet Misstasia who reached the live semi-finals of the 2015 Britain’s Got Talent back in May. The four girls have recently announced a UK ‘Princess Tour’ during the October half term holiday.
Singer/songwriter, Ella Shaw missed out on a place in the final of Britain’s Got Talent 2015 — but she still wowed the judges, left the presenters ‘gobsmacked’ and was given the thumbs-up by the professionals. She is delighted to be entertaining all the guests at Midlands Children of Courage Awards.
Launched last year, The Midlands Children of Courage is becoming established on the Midlands Calendar as an annual fund raising event, honouring the region’s deserving children and at the same time raising funds for the St. James’s Place Foundation. The 2014 ceremony and dinner raised over £60,000 for distribution to local causes via the Midlands Committee of the Foundation.
We would like to say a sincere and heart-felt thank you to our sponsors and supporters, and in fact to everybody who contributed to this unique event!
The St. James’s Place Foundation is a grant making charity that has distributed in excess of £34m to good causes over the last 22 years. Read more about the work of the Foundation here
